As a pipeline construction company and contractor, it is important to know what the environmental impacts are when executing pipeline projects. The ensuing information is useful both for Nacap, in order to offset the emissions and reduce energy consumption (costs), as well as for clients who may wish to consider the results of this research in their decision making process.
Except for some research about emissions of certain steel and plastic used in the pipeline industry, no in-depth research has been executed for CO2 emissions of pipeline construction in the past. The data to conduct this research is provided by Nacap b.v, Europipe and Corus. The conversion factors used to calculate the emissions are obtained from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the UK. The combination of research conducted in the past and reports such as the defra conversion factors have supported the research towards the results.
