HDD record underneath the Ketelmeer

In December 2009, Nacap was awarded the contract for the construction of a natural gaspipeline from Swifterband to Emmeloord in the Netherlands. This new pipeline crosses the Ketelmeer: a lake of 3500 hectares. Part of this project is a record HDD with a length of 2.800 meters. After initial problems, the pipeline was successfully pulled in, in the night from the 6th of July. The drill was executed according to the ‘meeting in the middle' principle. At both sides of the lake, rigs where placed and the drills met under the lake, a great accomplishment.
