The building works on a new 360 km long, DN250 (10") diameter, high-tensile steel ethylene pipeline between Stade (Lower Saxony - 160 km) and Teutschenthal (Saxony-Anhalt - 200 km) for the American Dow Chemical Company have been lasting from June 2002, to October 2003. The scope of works included various valve stations, two booster stations and two metering stations.
The new route leads to more efficient utilisation of the Dow plant in central Germany and is an essential prerequisite for meeting the growing demand for synthetics.
The pipeline transports ethylene, which is a chemically pure gas, forming the basis for the production of synthetics. The chemical company in central Germany is the largest synthetics producer in eastern Germany.
This work includes the necessary measures and activities for revitalising the pipeline corridor after the construction work has finished. This includes replanting along the route as well as additional planting. The plan for the landscape also provides for activities involving crossing protected zones, to minimise damage to biotopes or specific landscape structures. RAB already executed the construction of the 430 km raw materials pipeline from Rostock to Böhlen a few years ago and has DOW's confidence for reliable and good quality work.
In central Germany, Dow operates modern and competitive works at Schkopau, Böhlen, Leuna and Teutschenthal, where synthetic rubber and various plastics are produced.
